Helping You Care for Your People

Introducing Responder Care

Responder Care Founder, Paul McFarlane, is a nationally recognised leader in emergency services, leadership support, and workplace wellbeing.

With over three decades of experience across healthcare, chaplaincy, and mental health leadership, Paul has spent his career supporting people in high-pressure environments where decisions matter and the cost of getting it wrong is high.

Today, through Responder Care, Paul works alongside Australian business owners and people leaders to help them navigate complex people issues, manage psychosocial risk, and lead with confidence, without carrying the burden alone.

Paul’s approach is grounded in frontline experience and practical judgement. Rather than clinical models or generic programs, he focuses on calm, people-centred leadership support that helps leaders think clearly, respond well, and build psychologically safe environments for their teams

Workplace wellbeing doesn’t need to be clinical or complicated. When leaders are supported to lead well, practical, proportionate strategies can be put in place that protect people, reduce risk, and strengthen teams in a way that fits the reality of running a business.

“I’ve walked alongside first responders through some of Australia’s toughest moments. I bring that same care and insight to help you support your people.”

Access Ongoing Leadership Support

A different kind of support

Responder Care isn’t a wellbeing program or an employee assistance service. We provide ongoing leadership support for business owners who are responsible for managing people and psychosocial risk.

Our focus isn’t on rolling out initiatives or reacting after things have gone wrong. It’s on supporting leaders to think clearly, assess risk, and respond appropriately as issues arise.

We will allocate a dedicated consultant who will journey with you as you navigate complex people decisions. Your trusted advisor will share their perspective, wisdom, and support over time, rather than providing one-off advice or recommending generic programs.

What changes when you work with Responder Care?

Working with Responder Care isn’t about adding another service. It’s about having a trusted person to talk things through with.

It gives business owners confidence that they’re responding appropriately, not reactively.

In practice, that means:

  • People issues will be identified and addressed earlier, before they escalate

  • Decisions will feel calmer, more considered, and more appropriate

  • Psychosocial risk will be managed in a way that fits the reality of the business

  • Business owners will feel less isolated in the leadership role

How Responder Care works

Responder Care works by supporting business owners through an ongoing, trusted relationship.

Each client works with a dedicated consultant who gets to know their business, their pressures, and their challenges.
When issues become more complex, that consultant is supported by additional expertise behind the scenes.

You’re never handed off. The relationship stays consistent, even when the situation becomes more challenging.

Who this is for?

Responder Care is designed for:

  • small business and franchise owners

  • founder-led and owner-managed organisations

  • businesses without internal HR or wellbeing teams

  • leaders managing ongoing people complexity or psychosocial risk

If you’re looking for a program to roll out, this may not be the right fit.

If you’re looking for support that will help you to lead well under pressure, it may be exactly what you need.

Paul has spoken with thousands of paramedics and members of the public during his time at NSW Ambulance, many of whom experienced profound trauma or loss.

These interactions have given him valuable insights into human behaviour, including how adversity is influenced by social networks and how everyone faces internal struggles, regardless of external appearances. He also recognises the importance of purpose in life and its impact on wellbeing.

Paul’s deep care for others, along with his humility and extensive experience, make him ideally suited to this work. Through Responder Care, Paul brings his knowledge and compassion to businesses, offering valuable services that improve staff wellbeing and the overall health of the organisation.
